Overview

We began offering the Ultimate Warrior Program for Women in September 2010 as a free course at the Martin Luther King Center in Gainesville, FL.

In the Ultimate Warrior Program for Women, participants are taught techniques from Muay Thay kickboxing and the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). Participants quickly gain the self confidence of knowing that they can successfully defend themselves against larger, stronger opponents.

Participants are also offered simple, practical tools for becoming an Ultimate Warrior: Someone who has mastered her own mind and thereby transcended fear and stress, and realized a high level of personal freedom.

Schedule

The Fall 2011 course is being held at Shands Hospital for health care professionals interested in becoming Martial Arts Therapists with Kids Kicking Cancer.

Self Defense Philosophy

Although the program does offer techniques for defending against a street attack, the focus is on rape prevention. Thus, as the vast majority (most statistics indicate 90% or more) of rapes are acquaintance rapes, where the attacker is usually already on top of the victim, the focus of the program is on developing a sound ability to fight from one’s back, using the art of BJJ.

The techniques taught try to avoid inflicting pain on an attacker, as this is usually reported to result in an escalation of violence on the part of the attacker, resulting in increased chances for injury. Rather, the focus is on buying time to escape (controlling time), avoiding physical contact as much as possible and minimizing the chances for injury (controlling space), and, if physical contact is unavoidable, utilizing techniques that render an attacker unconscious or that make it easier to render an attacker unconscious.
